Mr. David Chapman-Smith received his honors degree in law from Auckland University, New Zealand in 1972 and was a litigation partner in the firm of Holmden Horrocks & Co. in Auckland until his emigration to Canada in 1982. His introduction to chiropractic was as counsel for the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association before the New Zealand Commission of Inquiry into Chiropractic in 1978-79.

In Toronto he requalified in law and was admitted to the bar while serving as General Counsel for the Ontario Chiropractic Association , and then served as Secretary-General for the World Federation of Chiropractic for 27 years until June 2015. He currently serves as Acting Secretary-General for the Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport.

Mr. Chapman-Smith founded The Chiropractic Report in 1986 and was its principal author and editor for 30 years until 2016. He is known throughout the chiropractic world as an advisor, speaker and author. His many awards include fellowships and honorary degrees from several educational institutions, and the World Federation of Chiropractic’s Honor Awards for outstanding service to the international growth of chiropractic have now been named the David Chapman-Smith Awards.

Mr Chapman-Smith is married to the Brazilian chiropractic leader Sira Borges DC, MD and each of them have four children by earlier marriages. They have five doctors of chiropractic and five of medicine in their immediate family.
